Formerly Architectural Department of Sendai College of Engineering (current G14 Research Center for 21st Century Information Technology 1) is located the south edge of Katahira campus fasing to Minami Rokkencho dori avenue.
Sendai College of Engineering (Sendai Koto Kogyo Gakko : SKK) was founded in 1906 (Meiji 39). This architecture was built in 1930 (Showa 5) with the foundation of architectural department.

The main gate of SKK was opened to Minami Rokkencho dori avenue. This architecture has an arcade with vault ceiling toword the main gate, so it became a kind of entrance of SKK campus.
Walls are covered with scratched tiles and windows. On the entrance of arcade, there is brick arch with SKK emblem. At the east side, there is a staircase tower with virtical long windows along the stairs, and it variegate the elevation.
At first, there were drafting room, lecture rooms, faculty offices, library, blue print room, and so on. Originally, the 1st and 2nd floor was single corridor plan, and the 3rd floor had no corridor. Now also the 3rd floor is single corridor plan by the renovation.
SKK was attached to Tohoku university in 1949 (Showa 24). And this architecture was used by Architectural engineering department of Tohoku university.
With the moving of School of Engineering to Aobayama campus from 1964 (Showa 39), Architectural engineering department moved too. After that, Applied Information research center, Graduate School of Information Sciences used this building, and now Research Center for 21st Century Information Technology is using.
This is a building that conveys the atmosphere of expressionist architecture in the early Showa period with beautiful arcade-style passage and scratched tiles.
