D02 Tohoku University Archives (Registered Tangible Cultural Properties)

The Tohoku University Archives was established for the purpose of preservation and exhibition of the document about the history of Tohoku University.
This architecture was built in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Tohoku Imperial University as a library reading room in 1926. The Romanesque-like design facade is beautiful with arched window and copper sheet roofing penthouse. The architecture was designed by Tsutomu Ogura, who at the time was an engineer at the Tohoku Imperial University (later became professor at the architectural department of Tohoku University).
Now, the reading room is used as an exhibition room. In the room, many kinds of documents, materials about Tohoku University are on display. Also the original chandelier and desk are remaining in the exibition room. You can feel the atmosphere of those days.

B05 Lecture Hall where Lu Xun studied (Registered Tangible Cultural Properties)

This architecture is the only one remnant of Sendai Medical College and it was built in 1904. It served as the Natural History, Physics and Chemistry Lecture Rooms within the site of the Sendai Medical College.
The Nanking clapboard exterior wall is painted white, and the building has a tiled roof with gables, and vertically long windows. Inside this building is a lecture room featuring a lecture platform, with built-in tables and chairs rising in steps from the platform in a stair-like manner.
When the building was first built, it faced 180-degree in the other direction, and was attached to the eastern side of the former Natural History, Physics and Chemistry Lecture Rooms of Sendai Medical College (Tohoku University Administration Building 3).
The great Chinese literary master, Zhou Shuren who was known by his pen name of Lu Xun, studied in this room when he attended the Sendai Medical College as an exchange student.

The Lecture Hall Archives Exhibition (in B04 Tohoku University Administration Building 3 (Registered Tangible Cultural Properties))

The Lecture Hall Archives Exhibition was settled up in B04 Tohoku University Administration Building 3, which was registered as Tangible Cultural Properties in 2017. The exhibitions show about Sendai Medical College (where Lu Xun studied), and the relation relation with the exchange student and Tohoku university.

Public Exhibition Space

This exhibition space is located on the first floor of C 07 Extended Education and Research Building.
It has colonnade to the fifth floor. In this space, various latest studies are introduced and special exhibitions are held .

The Honda Memorial Hall was established at the Institute for Materials Research to honor Kotaro Honda, the founder of the Institute and the sixth president of Tohoku University. This building was constructed in memory of his attractive contribution over 25 years to Tohoku University.
Honda’s apparatus and experiment notebooks the KS permanent steel magnet, and several articles which remind us of him are exhibited in the Memorial Exhibition Room. Also displayed are articles which show the history and achievement of the Institute.

This gallery is for the exhibition about the history and next era of Research Institute of Electrical Communication.
Also the achievements of seven researchers who contributed greatly to the development of telecommunications in Research Institute of Electrical Communication are displayed with their portraits.

A01 Katahira Kitamon Commons

This building rebuilt in 2013 including cafeteria "Sakura kitchen", "restaurant HAGI", University Co-op shop"Sakura shop", seminar room, University House, accommodations for resercher.
It became a lively space by designing indoor space and outdoor such as rows of cherry trees and terrace integrally.
On the second floor, there are lounge "Espace", seminar room"Cerisier", and alumni room "Kitamon Lounge".
In the entrance hall, sometimes "Katahira Lobby Mini Concert" is held and everyone enjoy it.

This hall was built in 2005 with the fasade design which followed the design of the historical architecture with scratched tiles.
Also this hall is opened to the public, so it is used by various meetings or lectures, etc..
