The Katahira Campus becomes the valuable green of the downtown area of Sendai city in pairs with the Koutoudai park of the north side sandwiching the Ichibancho mall between.
And the Hirose river runs the westside of campus. So Katahira Campus is a part of open space network around the Hirose river.
To play a role as the green of the city, we make efforts for the preservation of existing trees which various historic valuable trees include, or opening of the campus positively.

The center open space of Katahira Campus which was used to be a courtyard of The Second Higher School is opened to the public as "UniverCity Memorial Park".
There are lots of cherry trees. In the blooming season, many people enjoy the cherry blossom viewing.
In the autumn, "Katahira Matsuri (Katahira Festival)" is held in this openspace. Research institutes of the Katahira Campus hold many kinds of experiment which introduce the highest study contents intelligibly.

Because the Katahira Campus has been used for a long time as an academic area, a lot of preservation tree of Sendai city and historic meaningful trees stay.
Attractive scenery and environment are made with these trees such as three hundreds years old ginkgo tree (Sendai city Preservation tree), row of metasequoias near northgate, row of Japanes black pine trees planted in edo era, with historical buildings.
